District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, the judge who Donald Trump insists is “a Mexican” despite Curiel having been born in Indiana, has a bit of a decision to make. It’s not whether Trump and his organization defrauded students at his “university”—that’s still in the future. The decision at the moment is whether or not to release Donald Trump's testimony. And that’s something Trump really doesn’t want.
News organizations want full transcripts and video of Trump testifying at an all-day deposition Dec. 10 at his New York office and for three hours on Jan. 21 in a Las Vegas law office. …
The big battle is over video, which Trump's attorneys don't want to see sliced and diced in campaign attack ads.
What could be used for campaign ads? Well, it could be Trump admitting that he did not “hand select” the instructors, and in fact hadn’t even met most of them. It could be Trump admitted that far from containing “all his secrets” he didn’t even know what was being taught at Trump U. And it could be the things that simply haven’t made the transcripts.
Trump's tone, facial expressions, gestures and body language show "complete and utter unfamiliarity" with Trump University's instructors and instruction, despite the business mogul's previous statements that he was extensively involved, the attorneys wrote. They said Trump also made "many spontaneous and ad hominem remarks that are not reflected in the paper transcript of his depositions."
So … Trump’s campaign is worried that Trump talking truthfully about how Trump University “played on people’s dreams” and was little more than a scam might be used against him. That seems possible. I’m sure Judge Curiel will carefully weigh this decision, and that he won’t be affected at all by how Trump has been calling him “a very unfair judge” or a “Trump hater” at his campaign stops.
If there’s anything more embarrassing than how Trump handled himself inside Curiel’s courtroom, it’s how he’s handled himself outside the courtroom. Those putting together ads against Trump have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to source material.
