The Trump campaign is strongly denying rumors that famed Hollywood director Garry Marshall, creator of such TV series as Happy Days and spinoff Joani Loves Chachi, took his own life after watching actor Scott Baio’s opening night endorsement of Trump at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. It is undetermined at this time whether the famed writer/director/producer was severely depressed by the fact that Mr. Baio had been selected to speak, or that it was in Cleveland.
The Hollywood legend (Marshall, not Biao, silly) is said to have left a note simply stating that once the Joanie Loves Chachi star had been announced as one of the opening night speakers, he realized that the Trump campaign had officially “jumped the shark,” a reference to a celebrated and said to be pivotal Happy Days episode.
The denial was issued by Trump spokesmodel of record Melania Trump, most known as the writer/creator of such other Marshall-directed films as the loosely autobiographical Pretty Woman, The Princess Diaries, and Runaway Bride as well as such roman à clef TV series as The Odd Couple and Me and the Chimp. The campaign said there would be no further comment until they figure out what the hell they are doing.
*Mr. Marshall, truly one of my Hollywood heroes, had actually passed away in a hospital yesterday, at the age of 81, from complications of pneumonia following a stroke. Although this post is obviously in poor taste, realIy, how could you not? My out here, is the hope this is the kind of offbeat satirical coverage that would have made the gentleman smile. He is certainly missed.
