• WNBA players fined for wearing black warm-up shirts to call attention to police violence: Tina Charles kicked off the protest when she accepted her award for the league’s Player of the Month by turning her black New York Liberty shirt inside out. The catalyst for her decision was the news that police had wounded the black therapist of an autistic man:
“When I heard that news I couldn’t be silent,” she said. “Just knowing my status, knowing the player I am representing this organization. If anybody was going to wear it, I knew it had to be me. For me personally, it’s all about me continuing to raise awareness. I have no problem wearing this shirt inside out for the rest of the season until we’re able to have the WNBA’s support. So just in my position, I’m going to continue to do that.”
Other players from Liberty, Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury joined in the protest by wearing black t-shirts at multiple games. The teams were fined $5,000 and each player was fined $500.

• At 300 megawatts, wind farm is largest ever proposed for North Dakota: Glacier Ridge Wind Farm LLC has proposed the project for Barnes County. It will include 87 to 99 turbines for operation beginning at the end of 2019. But state Public Service Commission could be an obstacle. The Grand Forks Herald has reported that two PSC commissioners blame wind energy for causing the shutdown of coal plants in the state, which they claim could lead to grid reliability issues. North Dakota has also lost 44 percent of its oil revenue since January 2015 as a consequence of lower oil prices.
