On this date, in both 2014, as well as in 2015, “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day” posted its profile of Randy Neugebauer, the elected U.S. House Representative from Texas’ 19th Congressional District. In our introductory look at Neugebauer, we talked about how he infamous during the 2013 Government Shutdown when he tried to shame a park ranger working on furlough at the World War II Memorial for the park being closed… when he was the one who shut down the government. Rep. Neugebauer also was the Congressman who once screamed out “BABY KILLER!” on the House floor at Rep. Bart Stupak of Michigan for having voted for the Affordable Care Act, claimed migrant children being held in detention facilities prior to being deported back to their families are being spoiled and treated in a “lovely way”, and voted against Hurricane Sandy Relief money while admitting that if a natural disaster happened in his district, he’d snatch up that aid money in a heartbeat.
Our second look at Randy Neugebauer continued to be a portrait of unbalanced partisan ideology, including how he hamstrung an education bill moving through the House in February 2015 by inserting an amendment into the bill that withheld federal funding from school districts that contract with health centers unless the center certifies that it will not provide abortions or give students any information about abortion, including directions to the nearest abortion provider. He also was busy voting for any and all anti-abortion measures and voting to deny funding to the Department of Homeland Security out of protest for President Obama’s executive orders on immigration.
Worst of all, when Neugebauer pops off at say, a park ranger or Bart Stupak in a burst of impotent rage, when he’s asked to accept responsibility for his outbursts, he often tries lying and claiming “it wasn’t me” that did it, like one of the goddamn ghosts from The Family Circus comics. We’ll give you one guess about how Randy Neugebauer reacted to the fake “sting” videos created by the Center for Medical Progress, though. Just one:
- September 11th, 2015: Neugebauer votes against the United States’ nuclear treaty with Iran.
- September 18th, 2015: Rep. Neugebauer votes for a bill with most House Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood, based on highly edited “sting” videos submitted by a Pro-Life advocacy group that have been repeatedly debunked by investigators.
- November 6th, 2015: Randy Neugebauer tucks an amendment onto the Highway Bill that rewards the big banks $17 BILLION by preserving dividends that were to end. We stand by our assessment that he’s a craven little weasel.
- November 19th, 2015: Neugebauer co-sponsors and votes for the American Security Against Foreign Enemies Act, reacting to the terror attacks in Paris by jihadists from France and Belgium by trying to create greater restrictions to keep out Syrian refugees, of whom exactly zero were involved in those attacks.
- February 2nd, 2016: Randy Neugebauer votes for HR 3762, the 61st attempt by Congressional Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act (which is still working better than was predicted).
- May 19th, 2016: Rep. Neugebauer votes against House Amendment 1079, which would have prohibited the use of federal funds for discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. So if you were wondering, yes, he’s pro-discrimination, apparently.
But we have good news, everyone! Randy Neugebauer is going to call it a career and retire at the end of his term. Presumably, he will use all of his free time to accuse random people of infanticide and then retreat before they can ask him what his problem is, like the twitchy twit he’s always been. And while any Democrat would have a hard time winning office in Texas’ 19th Congressional District, considering it has a +26 Republican lean in the Cook Partisan Voting Index… it would have been nice of Debbie Wasserman-Schultz in her infinite wisdom running the DNC to have at least got someone’s name on the ballot to try and replace Randy Neugebauer who isn’t Jodey Arrington, a guy who worked for George W. Bush as an aide while he was still Governor of Texas and in the Bush White House, helping him fill up executive appointed posts. Potentially, that included the choice of hiring a man named Michael Brown as head of FEMA, whose only experience was breeding horses. And remarkably, this led to Arrington being thrown into the fire to clean up the Gulf Coast after Brown had to resign in disgrace.
And now, he gets to take over for Randy Neugebauer. Just… wonderful.
