Received this e-mail today from Josh Shapiro’s (D. PA) Attorney General campaign:
I hope you're having a great Labor Day with friends and family. When you come back from the holiday, I hope you'll look at the plan I released to protect wages and workers' rights.
As Attorney General, I will make the powerful follow the rules so Pennsylvanians earn a fair wage and workers' rights are protected. It's the law, it's good for our economy and it's the right thing to do.
Too often, we see examples of workers' rights being violated, whether it's unequal pay for women, wage theft, hiring discrimination or attempts to deny workers their right to organize. These illegal practices are just another part of the rip-off economy that's benefitting the wealthy and well-connected, but leaving the rest of us behind.
Here are the basics of my plan:
- Protect workers from wage theft.
- End worker misclassification.
- Stop discrimination in the workplace and ensure equal pay for equal work.
- Prevent employers from retaliating against employees who exercise their rights.
- Uphold Pennsylvanians' right to organize.
- Establish a Fair Labor Unit within the Office of Attorney General.
Much of our great quality of life in Pennsylvania is due to an incredible workforce -- and it's time we had an Attorney General who has the people's back instead of the insiders.
Enjoy the day off, but when you get back online, please take a moment to read my plan to be the people's Attorney General and share it with your friends, coworkers, and family.
On this Labor Day, I'm thankful for all the people who have worked to build our country, and I'm especially thankful to supporters like you who are standing with me and workers from across Pennsylvania in this campaign.
In solidarity,
Josh Shapiro
