Here in Virginia, we are having a special election. People right here at DK have been writing about it.
The Democratic candidate is running against two right-wing Republicans.
Justifiably, after the last national election, RESIST has become the word of the day.
There’s been a lot of talk and much words expended on the idea of resistance. But what does it look like?
What will resistance look like in the Age of Trump and Republican dominance of all three organs of national government?
I’ll tell you about one way — Resistance = voting for the Democratic candidate, always!
If we cannot vote for them, then we cannot hold them to their word, and make them do what we want. This is really very basic.
Here in Virginia, this is our first try after the national election to begin our resistance.
Here in Virginia, we are begining the groundwork for resistance by getting ready during this special election to elect Democrats into the Virginia State Senate and flip it for the long game — keeping the economy growing, and practicing fiduciary responsibilities to the state — instead of being on the receiving end of Republicans practicing their “values” upon us.
Let me highlight the significant difference in “values” between the candidates running in Virginia State Senate District 22.
Mr. Mark Peake
“I will continue to talk about representing our conservative values in Richmond and standing up to government interference and government overreach,” Peake said. Link
Mr. Ryant Washington—
Washington said in a phone interview that he hopes to be a voice for the localities in the district on issues such as public safety, health care, education and the economy.
“The economy is the driving issue,” and a strong education is key to a strong workforce, said Washington, adding that it is important that “we don’t enact burdensome policies.” Link.
*Bolding, mine.
The Republican candidate proclaims his Republican Party ideology as his “values.”
The Democratic candidate’s “values” have more to do with representing the people in his district. His “values” are about addressing the issues in his district, should he win.
Can there be a bigger difference?
Can there be a better plan of resistance than to vote such a man into office?
That’s the difference.
That’s a Democrat, and a rural people-first Democrat at that!
As opposed to a party-centric Republican.
I’m certain that Mr. Ryant Washington will provide leadership for Democratic causes in the Virginia Senate.
Mr. Ryant Washington is a member of 90for90.Org which was created in honor of Dr. William Ferguson Reid Sr. It is an organization which actively encourages voter participation by registering more voters.
