Hawaii’s Sen. Hirono wants to talk immigration some more, and how he’ll prosecute. So when you say “extreme views” for excluding Muslims, how do you determine that? Describe what that means. Sessions: Yeah, the State Department will have to figure that out. Okay, then. After continuing unsatisfactory exchange on extremism and religion, Hirono moves onto abortion. Roe a bad decision? Sessions: I said that before. I’m pro-life. Says it “denies the people to make laws they think are appropriate.” Hirono, yeah, but do you believe it’s a bad decision and we could end up with a SCOTUS that overturns it—would you direct the Solicitor General to defend it as settled law? Sessions: it’s the law of the land, you’re asking a hypothetical and I don’t have a clue. Hirono on VRA: would you prosecute states that violate VRA? Sessions: talks around it, he “may well” have that responsibility, but doesn’t say he’ll do it. Hirono: yeah, lots of states have pushed the law to its extreme, so that’s not gonna be hypothetical, you might have to do it.
