CNN's Jim Acosta did something unseemly last week, according to Donald Trump spokesperson Sean Spicer: he dared to challenge the incoming pr*sident after he trashed the news outlet for reporting unflattering information about him.
Acosta made a valiant effort to query Trump, but ever the statesman, Trump shouted him down from the podium and refused to take his question. Acosta later explained:
"I felt it was only fair that if our news organization is going to be attacked, that we get a chance to ask a follow-up question about what Donald Trump was talking about," Acosta said on television afterward.
Incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer has repeatedly said that Acosta should apologize.
Speaking on Fox News on Sunday, Spicer said, "The idea that he took no responsibility for his behavior was highly unacceptable and inappropriate, and he does owe us and his fellow members of the press corps an apology for his behavior."
Really, Spicer? Because Donald “no regrets, no remorse” Trump is such a vision in taking responsibility for his actions.
CNN expressed "complete support" for Acosta Monday, saying that "being persistent and asking tough questions" is his job.
For his part, Acosta pledged to "keep doing the news."
Kudos to both CNN and Acosta but honestly, they may as well ditch covering Trump’s press conferences—nothing worthwhile will ever happen there.
