A major outbreak of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms is predicted today for the southeastern U.S. by the NOAA's Storm Prediction Center. North Florida and south Georgia have a high probability of deadly tornadoes, including dangerous fast moving long track tornadoes today. The SPC rarely issues forecasts of a high probability of severe storms. This is potentially an extremely dangerous situation. I cannot stay on top of this situation today. I must travel to a slight probability area this morning and cannot update this blog. People living in the southeastern states from Alabama to North Carolina need to pay close attention to communications from their local National Weather Service Office.
..SUMMARY… www.spc.noaa.gov/...
A severe thunderstorm and tornado outbreak is expected today across
north Florida and south Georgia, with the significant severe threat
also expected to extend southward into central Florida and
northeastward into South Carolina this evening.
***Significant tornado outbreak expected today across north Florida
and south Georgia***
A very strong jet stream from California across the northern Gulf of Mexico has an intense wave and associated surface low that will rapidly swing across the southeastern corner of the United States. Exceptionally warm an humid air across north Florida and Georgia will encounter very strong wind shear as the intense pulse in the jet stream moves across the southeast. Long track tornadoes will move on a track slightly to the right of the southwest to northeast track of the upper level winds.
Folks, if you or anyone you love lives in northern Florida or southern Georgia and perhaps coastal south Carolina, pay extremely close attention to the weather today. It may suddenly get dangerous. Tornadoes can move at speeds of 60 miles per hour or higher in situations like this one.
This one is real folks and it is starting now.
