March and Storm
I had hoped to attend the San Francisco march and meet up with the S F Kossacks but my foot problem made me realize I couldn’t do that, so I went with Mrs. side pocket to the march in Santa Rosa. I did a preemptive strike by taking one of my “wrist” pain pills. We realized how well attended it would be when we saw that the downtown exit was backed up into Highway 101. I decided to try the huge shopping center parking garage. Everyone had the same idea, so it was full. I checked with a guy who was leaving, and he waited for me and turned over his space. Huge crowds were heading for City Hall, and the crowd was massive. No hope of meeting with the Kossacks I knew were there.
Hard to hear the speakers because of crowd noise. We listened and smiled at our neighbors. Then the threatening rain clouds opened up.
Finally the march began. The pace was so slow my foot didn’t hurt at all. We turned at an office building which has outward-slanting huge windows.
Everyone had the same idea. Here was a chance to see ourselves marching without using a selfie stick.
I took a photo as most other folks did.
Our crowd was estimated to be 7,000, with another 3,000 in the town of Sonoma. All ages and a very diverse group, and not one un-peaceful act. Great feeling to be a part and see the clever signs and happy faces. We walked in a square pattern through the center of town, and there were throngs of people atop nearly every building along the route.
After the march we headed home to Sebastopol, and decided to get Mexican food takeout. There are 1.5 million Mexican restaurants in Sebastopol. This one was jammed, and we could see by the “pussy hats” that the march contingent had all headed here. A long wait, but the food was delicious.

We have had a lot of rain and wind lately. This morning I saw a puzzling thing out the window. A white wire was sticking up out of the ground and up in a tree.
We had a telephone land line but it was abandoned years ago. It stretched from the house about 800 feet through trees to the road. The box on the house was ripped off and pieces were spread around. Using remarkable powers of deduction I guessed a tree had fallen on the line somewhere, and so it had.
While I was at it, I took one of last week’s damage. I still have rounds to split from last year. It will be a busy summer.
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by and tell us about your weather or your garden. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
