Good evening, my wonderful Top Comments community. I’m finally back in the land of the living after spending Saturday night thru Monday remembering how much fun norovirus (or any other enterovirus, for that matter) is. Astute sportsing readers will notice this period encompasses Sunday evening, which I spent NOT at the annual Super Bowl party a friend throws and which we attend to watch halftime and the commercials, but alone at home watching.
I’m still in Grumpy Recovery Mode, so what follows is going to be part vent and probably less coherent than normal. I suggest grabbing something soothing for your stomach (seriously, aren’t we ALL nauseous after today’s multiple-front horrible news events, DeVos and DAPL?) and join me below the story break, after a word from our sponsor:
Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
Observation One:
Remember back to the Friday, January 20th Inauguration (yeah, it feels like eons ago but is really less than three weeks), when one of the explanations for the lower-than-Obama turnout was that “Unlike the #libtards, Republicans have DAY JOBS and can’t take off for something like this.” I believe this also was rationale for why the Friday, January 27th March For Life also saw lower attendance numbers than the March For Women the previous Saturday.
Okay, lets go with that as a rationale. Our focus should be on meeting our commitments to jobs, and presumably our children to school, etc. Right? For consistency and all.
Today was the victory parade in Boston for the New England Patriots [Disclaimer: I live in New England. I don’t watch sportsball as a fan, have no dog whatsoever in Deflategate, but thought that no matter what the political leanings of everyone in that stadium were, the Patriots pulled out a helluva comeback and I’m holding on to “never give up” as a mantra for the next few years.] and close to one million people are estimated to have turned out to watch in person. Now I understand that football is NOT a partisan sport, but I have to assume that there were hardworking Republicans who ::gasp:: decided skipping out on work for sportsing was a viable choice, while doing so for civic matters is not. Friends who teach in local public schools, plus my own child’s experience, was that school was… erm.. lightly attended today. And the local folks I know who are Trump voting Republicans, many of whom actually used the “We work, liberals don’t”, condoned skipping out of work and school for sports.
Observation Two:
Post Women’s March, I saw all over the Twitterverse complaints that yes, those #Libtards, *littered* by leaving their signs all over DC and various other cities. I’ve been looking for similar criticism of how the horrible Patriots fans left litter all over the parade route, as friends who work in Boston told me they witnessed, but… crickets.
Conclusions:
I will use very small words so that the DeVos crowds understand, but I basically see two conclusions:
1. Trump supporters are raging hypocrites. (is hypocrite too big a word? Here’s a definition)
2. We place FAR too much emphasis on sports over civics.
3. This explains a LOT.
I’m hoping to stick around for as long as possible tonight, but I still run out of energy and it’s like a light switch turning off. Before I leave you in the capable formatting collaboration hands of BeninSC, I want to remind you all to #Resist, and practice #SelfCare. We ALL need to respect our limits and nurture ourselves. This is a long relay race, take care of one another and each do what we can. We are stronger together, always.
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.

Is this comment by jfromga about Jimmy Carter, relative to .. what is.
From BeninSC:
In an Overton Window kind of moment, with this comment, Em points out how mainstream some conservatives like Graham and McCain can sound, compared to the Clown-in-Chief. But oxobeepo demurs with the deeper truth.

Is this comment by Black Max, an idea for SNL to take Drumpf completely over the edge! I know I’d love to see it!
