On February 18th, I attended a rally in support of defending our constitution at Civic Center Park in Denver Colorado and participated in a mile march, behind hundreds of others, to the First Unitarian Church in show of support for Jeanette Vizguerra. Jeanette is staying at the church seeking sanctuary from deportation. Standing before the church listening to the social activists and the ministers voicing concern for Jeaneatte and the thousands of others like her, many of whom stepped out of the shadows in 2012 under DACA (Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals), and who now face the long and frightening arm of terror engineered by trump and his band of nationalist thugs in Washington, I realized how very, very far as a nation we have regressed and that we have literally slipped back to a darker time more ignorant time. It felt surreal.
However, even though the experience was frightening and surreal it was also uplifting, filled with hope, inspiration and resistance. We resistance protestors are not going anywhere and in the words of one of my favorite protest signs targeting trump “WE CAN DO THIS EVERY WEEKEND ASSHOLE” and we will!
Again for your enjoyment I have posted some photos from the rally and support march. I hope you feel the love for tolerance, democracy, justice and freedom from these photos as I felt photographing them. Please feel free to share my photos, and to find in them the beauty, love, defiance, resistance and unparalleled spirit and will of free thinking people.
We will resist until trump and his band of white nationalist are removed from the honorable halls of democracy that they continue to make mockery of. Please support the immigrant communities in your area and where possible advocate for sanctuary city status. Just last week in Colorado a bill was defeated that attempted to make criminals of those of us seeking sanctuary city status for our immigrant communities. The GOP will continue to find ways to undermine the resistance. It is important for us to continue to resist and to remain active and vigilant in whatever capacity we are able.
My thanks to photographer, Paul LeBlanc for again being willing to share his photos also.
