We are getting noticed too! Rachel Maddow gave Daily Kos a shout out last night (3.8.17) when she spent the last 5 minutes of her show featuring Dr. Kathryn Allen, who is running against Chaffetz in Utah’s 3rdCD. Dr. Allen credited Daily Kos with her rise in popularity and fundraising in an interview with Utah’s Deseret News. She actually broke Crowdpac’s record for fundraising.
Or should I say, we here at DK did? Chaffetz is one of those crazy Hillary hunters that we love to hate. He has been the chairman of the US House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform since 2015. I guess he used up most of his energy investigating BENGHAZI! and has none left to oversee what his own Party is getting up to.
Darrel Issa (the richest man in Congress) was chairman of this same committee from 2010 to 2015. BENGHAZI! BENGHAZI! I’m thinking that Issa was already so close to the edge that his obsession with taking down HRC sent him right over the cliff.
In the 2016 election in his congressional district, CA 49th, Issa declared himself the winner before the votes were all counted. Doug Applegate ran against him and when the votes were all counted, Applegate was only a little more than 1600 votes shy of winning. 1600 votes!!
This was his first political campaign also. If you know anything at all about politics or even about competitions, you’ll understand that the chances of Applegate winning the 49th in 2018, are phenomenally high.
He’s a Marine Colonel running in the same district where Camp Pendleton is, and we here at Daily Kos were early supporters of him the first time around. Yeah, I’d say the odds are in his favor.
We do need to jump on this now though. The first time round, Issa dismissed the Colonel (and us); this time he’ll be paying close attention to his opponent, but maybe we can sneak in under the radar and fill Colonel Applegate’s war chest before Issa notices.
We can help elect two great Democrats to Congress and send a clear message to the Republicans that we don’t think much of the chairs of their oversight committee.
Both Doug Applegate and Dr. Kathryn Allen are supporters of 90for90
