Here’s an idea: if House Republicans won’t hold town hall meetings to explain to their constituents why they voted to strip access to health care from 24 million people, Democrats can do it for them. Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney made that offer after Republican Rep. John Faso’s office turned its phones off and Faso’s constituents started calling Maloney’s office, since the two are in neighboring districts.
“I think every Republican who voted for this thing ought to have to stand in front of their voters and explain it,” Maloney told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. “And if it takes a Democrat to go in and do it for them for a while, I’ll explain what’s in this bill.” [...]
He said Democrats should “get on offense.”
“Maybe a Democrat ought to go into every district where a Republican who supported Trumpcare won’t hold a town hall meeting and do it for them,” he said. “Sit in that chair and say I’ll stand here and answer your questions until your own congressman starts doing his job.”
And if Republicans don’t like it when Democrats do that, they can explain why they aren’t out there holding town halls themselves.
Make them pay: Donate $1 right now to each of the Democratic nominee funds targeting vulnerable House Republicans who voted to destroy access to health care.
