Last year, the Missouri state house passed legislation to get rid of permit requirements for concealed carry. While Governor Jay Nixon (D) vetoed the legislation, his veto was overturned by the super majority Republican House and Senate. On January 1, 2017, the law came into effect, and now Missouri residents can carry a gun anywhere concealed, without a permit. But what about those poor Missourians who don’t have a gun to carry?
This, however, didn’t solve a real problem: Missouri residents who may have been denied the ability to bring their shiny new firearm into the state house. How do you solve that problem? Well, Nick Marshall, Republican representing District 13 in North West Missouri, came up with a solution: he’d offer a lending library for gun owners who needed to make sure they had a gun while they were inside the state house.
No one is quite sure how many guns Rep. Marshall actually keeps in his office to be able to run this gun-based lending library. I do wonder about the need for defense inside a facility where state police inhabit the hallways for the safety of those attending.
