From Wednesday night until early Thursday morning, Republicans in the U.S. Senate began their first steps to repeal Obamacare. Think Progress reported “in just one night’s votes, they indicated that they are not willing to take a stand to ensure that people with pre-existing conditions, women, children, veterans, young adults, people with disabilities, and struggling families can continue to access the affordable coverage they need” to live healthy lives.
Other news outlets reported on this “vote-a-rama” including The New York Times, CNN and The Washington Post.
Bernie Sanders stated “I think it's important for this country to know this was not a usual thing, this is a day which lays the groundwork for 30 million people to be thrown off their health insurance. And if that happens, many of these people will die.”
In other words, the Republicans are adamant about repealing Obama care knowing that tens of thousands of people will die without health insurance. Before Obamacare in 2010, for example, 26,100 people between the ages of 25 and 64 died because they did not have health insurance. That’s just shy of ten times more than the 2,977 people were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Isn’t it time to call these actions by Republicans what they are: domestic terrorist attacks?
Domestic terrorism, as defined by the F.B.I.:
- Involve acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law;
- Appear intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination. or kidnapping; and
- Occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S.
Voting to take away health care from individuals is not illegal but... Every one of the Senators who voted in these measures to repeal Obamacare is, in fact, casting a vote for tens of thousands of people to die. That is premeditated mass murder — and mass murder definitely violates federal and state laws.
The following U.S. Senators should be indicted, charged and convicted of domestic terrorism for the mass murder of tens of thousands of Americans by depriving them of health care:
