I typically tell people when they start on the whole ‘we shouldn’t apologize’ shtick to cram it. When Bill Maher thinks that his privilege as a rich white man is in some way transferable to women and people of color running for office I slap my head at his ignorance. I’m not typically one to agree with this boorish nonsense argument.
But sometimes it makes sense! Today the Texas Democratic Party Twitter account made a very salient and crucial point that has life of death implications for students, officers, and all citizens.
Background info:
Last night a 19-year-old white College student by the name of Hollis Daniels, murdered a campus police office in cold blood. From the looks of the details of the story Hollis Daniels had drugs and drugs paraphernalia in his dorm room when the officers came by for a ‘welfare check’ on him. Upon finding the drugs the officers attempted to book him. Around that time one of the 2 officers left the room and Hollis was uncuffed, because he was white let’s be honest, and Hollis used that white privilege of trust from police to fatally shot the officer and flee. He was later apprehended and confessed.

That’s the background. Here’s what the TxDems are apologizing for for no reason.
From Wapo
As news of the shooting was breaking late Monday, the Texas Democrats’ Twitter account posted, “Allowing concealed guns on college campuses was a dumb and dangerous idea.”

Yup that was it. That is what they are rushing to delete and apologize for, making a real point! Campus Carry is an extremely stupid and dangerous idea and will quite likely lead to far more senseless shootings in college. It’s a important point and one that needs to be made. Yet, by the fact that this specific instance did not include a concealed permit we’re being reduced to ‘thoughts and prayers’ because we can offend the gun nuts. This Child is legally allowed to purchase a fire arm in the state and could have in short order brought nearly any weapon to the campus he would like. This could have been far far far worse and someone needs to make clear why exactly the campus carry issue is important.
I say they should have a ‘stand your ground’ policy on the truth, what do you say?
