Well hello there, you tasty little treat. I’m shedding another bit of Friday fluff and welcoming you to it.
Yes, be welcome, enjoy a break from the battles we’re all fighting.
How’s your Friday the Thirteenth going?
I’m sitting here after a morning of cooking. Gearing up for the weekend, the festivities continue. Mrs. the Werelynx, to give her credit, occupied the kitchen with her own culinary specialties before I bounded in and made a monstrous bowl of pasta salad and filled the largest pot we have at home with beef stew. Now, as the stew cools on the stovetop, awaiting a hungry horde of well-wishers that we’ll greet tomorrow out in my favorite corner of the countryside, I take a moment to write to you.
I’ve got comedian Greg Proops’ wondrous journey of a podcast playing as I write. The wondrous fates have this week’s podcast coming from my old hometown of Madison, Wisconsin. Oh, kittens! it’s deliciously profound and profane. Well, I don’t consider it profane, but the “your mileage may vary” label would be part of a responsible recommendation. Still, nobody makes me laugh about the horrors of US politics like Greg. You might not even find it profound, but it speaks volumes to me. I may not agree with everything that any person believes, but Greg is my flavor. The energy he brings to the conversation on civil rights and equality is infectious.
I sit and write and Mrs. the Werelynx is out in the kitchen breading and frying all the schnitzels I flattened. Division of labor, keeping the love alive.
I have relatives in town, visiting from California. Six years ago we were out there visiting them. There’s a whole branch of the Werelynx family that moved out to Californy from the Midwest and yes, some of them do have cee-ment ponds.
Unbelievable, I was just handed a plate of mashed potatoes and schnitzel. I am a blessedly spoiled and pampered pootie.
Where was I? Oh yes, Beverly Hillbillies references. But my thoughts are with all the people I know (and don’t know) who are choking through the smoke of the fires in California.
This afternoon we’ll walk around this grand city and show off a few of our favorite spots to our visitors. This evening we hope to catch some of the events at Prague’s Signal Festival, this is our Festival of Lights and there’s pretty much guaranteed to be something amazing to see.
I myself had a good week. A bit of gardening in the rain last weekend. Lots of cleaning and furniture shuffling in anticipation of about 20 friends showing up at our place out in the country to belatedly celebrate my birthday. Oh yeah, more cakes, honey cakes, were purchased. Monday I got back to work on my webcomic and kept on scribbling well into the evening hours at my life drawing class. The instructor lead me into malty temptation after class, but we behaved ourselves. Went out to a place that was new to me. I do enjoy a good explore. Back home before ten.
Tuesday I kept to the scribbling until it was time for me to head out for an afternoon of English tutoring. Wednesday the scribbling continued until it was time to head out to greet our Californians and then spent a lovely evening of perfect weather in delightful company walking through Prague.
Thursday I basically locked myself away and finished the page of my webcomic I’d been working on so diligently. It seemed to take forever. Drawing, redrawing… and then— my dear, old scanner wasn’t quite willing to cooperate without a struggle. For some reason the old computer, whose only remaining purpose is to talk to my scanner, had decided that the scanner wasn’t there. Selective USB port amnesia.
I skipped out on a lovely walk in the evening to get the page posted and make a few nearly invisible attempts to promote it. It’s going to be an interesting ride, curious to see if my readership will rise or dwindle.
Well, I suppose I’d better get this diary queued up for later. I don’t expect that I’ll be around when it goes out. I should be busy staring at the lights.
Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be stopping by myself before bed and again in the morning before we head out to the country. Should be a whole lot of photos to share next week.
