Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Tim Kaine’s (D. VA) re-election campaign:
Here's what you need to know about the program:
CHIP is a bipartisan effort that was created in 1997 to help provide more affordable health coverage for kids (and pregnant women) in lower income families.
Every so often, Congress must reauthorize programs like CHIP -- and on September 30th, in the wake of yet another Republican effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act, CHIP's financing lapsed. If it's not renewed soon, states will begin to run out of the money they use to fund children's health insurance.
That's funding for kids' immunizations, routine check-ups, prescription medications, emergency services, inpatient and outpatient hospital visits, dental and vision care... just gone.
This is not a partisan fight. It's simply about our commitment to caring for our country's kids.
One thing we've learned over the past year is that everyone's voice can make a difference, but we can have an even greater impact if we speak up together. So if you agree that it's time to renew CHIP and save health insurance for 9 million children, sign your name today.
Thanks for your support.
