After reading this story, I kept hoping to hear an outpouring of support for Rep. Wilson:

Sadly, one still has to use a fine comb indeed to find expressions of support. Any female politician should be outraged and vocal. What has been done to Frederica Wilson could be done to any of them. Being silent in the face of sexist epithets puts their own political careers at risk. And it should not just be female politicians — Bernie? Merkley? I want to hear your voices, too.
Now, I think part of the problem is that people are uncomfortable with Rep. Wilson’s flamboyance. I have seen people I generally respect and who are liberal laugh at her appearance. Really, people? Are we in middle school? Mocking someone on the basis of appearance is stupid and useless. Failing to stand up for someone is cruel and shortsighted. If you stand up for Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris, you should stand up for Frederica Wilson. And if you ARE Elizabeth Warren or Kamala Harris, you should stand up for Rep. Wilson when she’s called a sleazy whore who just wants attention.
