(a poem by Dave Latka)
We are the voters, they call evangelical
You’ll find all our candidates, are really quite swell
With God on their side, it helps make the sell
We’ll ignore all the morals, that are straight out of hell
Let’s make sure we get, another win for Jesus
‘Cause He’s definitely the one, who is with us
Whenever convenient, morals thrown under bus
‘Cause getting holy candidates elected, is our main thrust
While ignoring the ninth, that Thou shalt not lie
We support our politicians, with nary a sigh
As they deceit and they cheat, just to get by
We turn other cheek, without any decry
We hitched our wagon, to the man named Trump
We threw our hat in, when he was on stump
We ignored the rhetoric, of his toxic waste dump
‘Cause we know he likes Jesus, so he’s not our chump
We ignore the charge, that he favors Putin
What matters most, is that God got the win
Trump’s Supreme Court pick, really makes us grin
We’ll just ignore that fact, that Trump has thin skin
Never mind this psycho, has his hand on the nuke button
Never mind his fragile ego, ‘cause he is our godly son
Never mind North Korea, who is poking some fun
Never mind when Trump sends out, his holy bombing run
Next up for us, is to support Roy Moore
Never mind his desire, for some kids as his whore
What matters most to us, is that we run up the score
So ignore those who think, we should show him the door
We always vote, so they’ll end abortions
‘Cause babies unborn, are great misfortunes
We’ll express the facts, with maximum distortions
While ignoring all the poor, sick and hungry orphans
And speaking of this, let’s ignore what we saw
That abortions still happen, regardless of law
And Republicans keep office, if they don’t address this flaw
So these laws they’ll rail against, but will never withdraw
Assault weapons are always, part of our scribal
Mass murder doesn’t faze us, ‘cause it’s in the Bible
Second amendment remedies, help our survival
Scared shitless our emotion, until His re-arrival
While Republicans work, to change taxation
They also pass policies, to destroy God’s creation
But we are okay, that they plunder our nation
If they give God lip service, as their explanation
We don’t mind, when they call us hypocritical
Our opinions only sensible, when you’re not analytical
Don’t worry about us, ‘cause our morals just aren’t critical
Maybe that’s why our moral compass, is just so darn political
Our opinions are so, important to us
Our vote with God, we will always discuss
Sadly moral sand lines, can be quite porous
Which is why we’ve lost, all moral authoritus
