Oh brother. Remember how we were praising Lisa Murkowski for voting against repeal of the ACA? Well apparently she’s been well and truly bribed with deal to drill in the Arctic and/or build highways in the sacred national forest, because NOW she is willing to repeal the ACA for all intents and purposes AND support the absolutely unspeakable GOP tax plan to give all our stuff to the rich.
I can’t stand it.
Here:
“I believe that the federal government should not force anyone to buy something they do not wish to buy, in order to avoid being taxed,” Murkowski wrote in an opinion piece published Tuesday by the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
Senate Republicans’ plan to rewrite the tax code includes a provision to repeal the individual mandate, a part of the 2010 health care law that requires almost all Americans to have some form of health insurance or pay a fine.
Will somebody please give me a break. The government forces you to buy auto insurance or you can go to JAIL, forget being fined. OK so maybe not jail but you can lose your license and what if you have an accident?
And where’s all that fine concern for the poor people of Alaska who will lose their health care? Nowhere in sight that’s where.
NEXT.
Murkowski was careful, however, to stop short of saying she would vote for the Senate GOP tax plan. She instead focused the entire op-ed on her views about the Affordable Care Act, emphasizing how Alaskans had paid $21 million in penalties under the law in 2014 and 2015 for failing to purchase health insurance. She wrote that “eliminating this tax would allow Alaskans to have greater control over their money and health care decisions.”
This is Republican-speak for, “the people will have greater choice in how they will be able to get really sick and/or die and take advantage of the ER which will then be charged to all the other people because SOMEHOW the bills will be paid but heaven forbid we pay a TAX which pays the bills.”
Somebody shoot me before I blow a gasket.
Anyway,
By stating her support for repealing the individual mandate in a homestate newspaper, Murkowski could be paving the way to carefully articulate to Alaskans how she is moving closer to Republican leaders on the tax plan, which has become President Trump’s top economic priority.
Anybody wanna bet the people of Alaska want nothing to do with this tax bill?
But then, who cares about the people.
