Too bad Jim Nabors passed away last week at age 87. A younger Mr. Nabors would have made a great Mike Pence when they finally make a movie about the Trump year(s) and the Trump-Russia collusion scandal.
The role of Pence may even provide a breakout film opportunity for Jack McBrayer, aka, “Kenneth the Page” from 30 Rock.
Apparently, Pence, the titular head of Trump’s transition team, was the Sergeant Schultz of this administration:
As the White House contends with questions about who knew about former national security adviser Michael Flynn lying to the FBI, people close to Vice President Mike Pence are trying to make clear that President Donald Trump’s No. 2 knew nothing at all.
Now, I know a lot of folks here will agree with the “know-nothing” part of the bolded portion of that statement. Pence is a simple, God-fearin’ hayseed.
Or at least he plays one on TV. In numerous television appearances, Pence denied that the Trump campaign had any contact with Russians or Wikileaks.
None. Zip. Zilch. Nada. The Vice President-Elect and the head of the transition knew nothing about the 19 (currently) reported contacts between people in the Trump orbit and Russians:
Pence’s aides have maintained for months that their man was out of the loop, blissfully ignorant of contacts between the Trump campaign and various foreign actors, from the Russian ambassador to WikiLeaks.
I’ll go along with the “ignorant” part of the description. Pence is a hard-right religious zealot. However, there is nothing at all “blissful” about Pence’s corporate-friendly, mean-spirited ignorance. And I don’t believe for a second that this good Christian was “out of the loop” on the deep and abiding connections between members of the Trump team and the Russians and Wikileaks. Even hayseed Pence isn’t that stupid.
As Rick Tyler noted:
“Either he didn’t know about it and then there’s why didn’t he know about it, or he did know about it and he’s lying. Neither is tenable for him,” said Rick Tyler, a Republican strategist and former communications director for the presidential bid of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
I’ll pick “lying,” Rick.
Tyler added:
“One speaks to a lack of character, and one speaks to a lack of competence — neither of which we want in a vice president, or a future president.”
Uh-huh.
I did find this clip of Pence, clad in his normal attire, which was secretly recorded at a transition meeting in Trump Tower:
Oh, I can’t wait for the movie...
