A Sunday statement from Donald Trump hints he’s upset the executive order on immigration is being called a Muslim ban. If he really thinks this, then Trump’s behavior is even more mind-boggling than I thought; it means he’s upset that we see his actions for exactly what they are. If we really do have a president who hates when America knows what he’s doing … then we’re in for a helluva ride.
The Chicago Tribune reports:
Trump issued a statement late Sunday afternoon that offered little clarity, even as he defended his executive order as necessary to protect the United States from terrorism.
"To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting," Trump said in the statement. "This is not about religion - this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order."
When will Trump get over his hatred of the media? And does this mean he thinks his Stateside BFF Giuliani is lying, too?
Former NYC mayor — and current Trump fan/buddy/gross dude — Rudy Giuliani appeared on Fox News over the weekend about the immigration ban and admitted what we knew all along: Trump’s anti-immigration order was made to be a Muslim ban. Here’s how it went down:
And this is exactly the sort of stuff the GOP has gotten so good at doing: attacking something but using different language to make the attack look unintentional. A good example of this is the local TRAP (Targeted Regulation of Abortion Provider) laws made in the name of making abortion “safe,” but are actually rules made to restrict abortion access. Trump tried the same strategy with targeting Muslims, but the man is too sloppy and pigheaded to wait and do it right.
