Before the election I read a series of tweets from some people who were recreational marijuana users who said they would absolutely not vote for Hillary Clinton because she didn’t make a strong enough statement in support of states that had recreational marijuana laws on the books. This now seems to be a great example of the perfect getting in the way of the good, and the devastating personal consequences that can happen when we become single issue voters or apply purity tests to candidates.
From Thinkprogress:
During his press conference on Thursday, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was asked whether the Trump administration plans to crack down on states like Colorado and Washington that have legalized recreational marijuana.
…
In response to a follow-up question about whether “the federal government [is] going to take some sort of action around this recreational marijuana in some of these states,” Spicer said that while it’s “a question for the Department of Justice,” he does think “you will see greater enforcement of it.”
Nobody believed that ICE would crack down like they have on undocumented immigrants, so I wouldn’t underestimate Session’s willingness or ability to do great harm to more lives, especially when it comes to attacking people in blue states.
Voting matters! It matters a lot, and unfortunately, many people are about to learn a very hard lesson.
