Trump signs whatever Bannon puts in front of him. But now you, too, can wield this frightening power, by writing your own Trump Executive Order and tweeting it to @realDonaldTrump. Or you may have a better idea for what to put on the page. As New York Magazine explains,
A celebrity holding up an easily edited object is like catnip for anybody with Photoshop, so each time Trump slaps his John Hancock on a document and poses with it for a photo he’s pretty much asking to become an internet gag.
The link in the quotation goes to this, from the Twitter account @TrumpDraws (i'm the president and i like to draw).
More examples after the jump.
Let's start here.
The link here goes to a New York Magazine article which we will get to below.
The anonymous artist, @TrumpDraws, is good at this, creating videos like this with artistic EOs.
I don't know how to do that myself, although I do know other people who can do it with Free Software tools like Blender, or with commercial video editing software. Anyway, I created this next example, and I can tell you about the process.
The image at the top of this Diary is the template provided by Isaac Hepworth, a product manager at Google. He has programmed his page so that you can select the text overlay, type in what you like, and take a screenshot. The instructions for changing text size don't work for me. (Firefox on Linux)
New York Magazine has helpfully provided a tutorial, Use This Generator to Make Trump Sign Any Executive Order You Want, assuming that you would use Photoshop. I used The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), which is Free Software. In either case, you get to use the full range of text or image editing tools to fill in your EO.
- Download the image, which does not include the text.
- Open it in your preferred software.
- Create a text overlay, and type or paste in your desired bit of snark.
- Add effects as desired.
- Use the shear tool to match the angle of the text to the page. In The GIMP, shear vertically by 29.
- Save in your program's native format.
- Export in your preferred image format. I use PNG, but JPEG is also suitable.
- Tweet, upload and post here, or what you like.
Boing Boing has also weighed in.

BoingBoing.net is hereby prohibited from making Photoshops of me.
Further, they may not comment on my hand size or my Dad's arrest at a KKK rally in 1927.
Then there is IsNowIllegal, which lets you enter ten character names of whatever you want Trump to ban and automatically creates videos with your fake EOs.
Make Things Illegal With This Trump Executive-Order GIF Generator
I can't embed their work, since the site is not whitelisted here, but I can give a link: Nickelback is now illegal
I have ideas for more of these fake Executive Orders, which I plan to tweet to @realDonaldTrump with the hashtag #ExecOrders. The real trick will be to get under his skin with all of this and get a public reaction. Any ideas?
