The debate over health care in America underscores, more than any other issue, the fact that the only thing Social Conservatives and Fiscal Conservatives have in common is the word "Conservative".
I've always been bothered by this.
On social issues, there is no doubt that Democrats are the party that care the most about the common man. Furthermore, they're clearly the party more closely aligned with Biblical values.
But you have to hand it to the GOP. Their leadership has done a masterful job of persuading Social Conservatives that they're on their side.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
It's a textbook case of how powerful the Fallacy of Equivocation can be.
In the months and weeks ahead, as more and more people lose their health benefits in favor of "Keeping America Safe" and "Keeping America Solvent", I hope and pray that the pain Social Conservatives feel in their pocketbook and the despair they feel as their loved ones find themselves without the care they so desperately need, especially as their lives enter into their final days, finds its way to their hearts and minds and they finally realize what a dark-hearted, disingenuous message the Republican Party has been preaching to them lo these many years.
