As a long time Dkos member (mostly reader), and as a long time red state liberal, the one thing that gives me hope in the Trump era is the unapologetic, angry liberal left taking hold and getting shit done in red states. Action and resistance are spreading like a goddamn prairie fire up in here, and the flames warm my heart in these cold dark times.
You can see this from our most recent town halls, but probably the best example that I’ve seen is the emergence of local contingency of the national group, The Betsy Riot. Betsy Riot started as mostly an anti-gun group from what I can tell, but with the rise of Trump, they have expanded considerably to troll numerous politicians nationally and locally. Nebraska has one of the most active chapters priding themselves on street theater. Local media is taking notice.
This weekend, a riot of Betsies from Iowa gave Nebraska Betsies a run for their money. They decided to go after white supremacist, Steve King, while he was home in Iowa’s 4th district. Apparently, the small town of Kiron (home of King) woke up to their town sign being accurately amended, and King himself had some new signage outside his house.
The results are glorious, and I couldn’t be more proud of the heartland Betsy Riot and the actions they are taking here in deep red territory. They keep us laughing, and give us hope, and for that I am grateful.
