President Trump promised time and time again to “Drain the swamp,” but there is no real evidence to suggest that he is actively trying. Recently, he has been filling top positions at the Pentagon with defense contractors, along with their lobbyists.
The positions in the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and the State Department will have contractors stemming from companies paid to manufacture weapons and vehicles for the United States government.
At least 15 officials with financial ties to contractors have been either nominated or appointed by the president to top-level executive positions in Washington D.C. These defense contracting companies are in favor of President Trump’s generous budget, which will only further overfund the military.
Trump is calling for $54 billion in added military spending next year, as well as a $30 billion budget increase for the DoD and DHS for this fiscal year. The president is at work, filling the swamp with lobbyists who don’t have the interests of the American people in mind.
