Just a short time ago, GOP Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Ne) issued a statement regarding Trump’s bizarre tweetstorm early this morning:
Digest those words.
“Civilization-warping crisis of public trust”
(Sidebar — let’s temper Sasse's response with the following declaration from almost exactly one year ago:
“I want to celebrate what’s great about America in the Republican Party,” Sasse said. “But if the Republican Party becomes the party of David Duke, Donald Trump — I’m out.”
Since the time Sasse issued the statement above, the GOP has sanctioned the removal of sheets, and become the party of Donald Trump, David Duke, and Stephen Bannon. I just checked, and yes indeed, Ben Sasse is still a Republican.)
Lastly, the New York Times offers up this juicy bit:
...a senior White House official said that Donald F. McGahn II, the president’s chief counsel, was working on Saturday to secure access to what the official described as a document issued by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court authorizing surveillance of Mr. Trump and his associates. The official offered no evidence to support the notion that such a document exists; any such move by a White House counsel would be viewed at the Justice Department as a stunning case of interference. [emphasis mine]
Perhaps coincidentally, Palm Beach police are responding to reports of a white Ford Bronco leaving the Mar-a-Lago complex, heading north on I-95 at a slow rate of speed. They are in pursuit, and expect to reach South of the Border, SC within a day. Will update when more information becomes available. Pedro abides.
(Only the last paragraph of this diary was snark. If you don’t get the joke, keep driving past the exit ramp.)
