Jesus H. Christ eating finger sandwiches at Melania Voldemort’s International Women’s Day luncheon, can SOMEONE please tell Herr Orange to stop fucking shit up for us everyday joes and josephines? Because what the goddamned hell!
Mexico has cancelled sugar export permits to the U.S., citing a dispute over the pace of shipments. And the reason is likely because the Voldemort administration is eager to “deconstruct the administrative state.”
In a letter sent by Mexico’s sugar chamber to mills, the country cited unfilled positions at the U.S. Department of Commerce as part of the reason it needed to cancel the export of sugar. Mexico said it has encountered “legalistic” issues involving the sugar trade, and there were no U.S. counterparts in Washington with whom Mexican officials could negotiate.
Mexico is the top foreign supplier of sugar to the United States.
That’s fabulous. Republicans want to take away a woman’s right to choose, the ACA, banking regulations, the EPA, the Department of Education, marijuana, and now sugar? SUGAR! What’s next, toys for children? Warm blankets?
Ugh. These crazy, inept, stupid stupid stupid people. You can mess with a lot of American shit before we notice, but if you fuck with our TV or our food, we will end you!
I cannot tell if this is complete incompetence, anger at Mexico for the cost of that blasted wall, or something else entirely. But since Pol Potbelly is seemingly refusing to staff our government with, ya know, other people, I’m pretty sure this is just the first in a series of import/export screw-ups that are going to leave American consumers broke and starving for food that was once plentiful in our stores.
The original Reuters article gives some good backstory; it appears that an ongoing trade dispute with Mexico began several years ago, but sugar prices are the highest they’ve been in about five years. Supposedly, the Mexican government will reissue existing permits for sugar in April, but I’m not holding my breath. I’ll bet good money those Dept. of Commerce jobs won’t be filled by then.
From the Reuters article:
The license cancellation by Mexico adds to protracted marketplace uncertainty, said Richard Pasco, president of the Sweetener Users Association trade group.
"We need adequate supplies and the lack of resolution is a problem," he told Reuters in a phone interview on Tuesday.
I’m not too big on sugar myself, but I would highly recommend people who bake or use it frequently go buy some of it today, before they jack up the prices and you can’t find it anymore.
Fuck you, Voldemort! You suck SO HARD!
