In the one week—yes, it's been just one week—since the House Republicans passed Trumpcare, House Republicans have been pummeled by their constituents. So it probably made sense for House Speaker Paul Ryan to go to Ohio instead of going back home to Wisconsin.
In fact, it was pretty smart of him if he wanted to avoid conflict, because things aren't going well for him in Wisconsin's 1st congressional district, his home. Let's start with this:
Yep, he's less popular in his home district than popular vote loser Donald Trump. Trump's still above water here, at 49-45 approval. That makes Paul Ryan's 51 point disapproval sad. Just sad. Oh, and his constituents are starting to think maybe they're ready for someone new—48 to 46 on his re-election. That number changes though, to 51 percent saying they want someone new when people find out exactly what's in the Trumpcare bill that Ryan shoved through the House.
Trumpcare itself? Very unpopular. Just 32 percent like it, 50 percent reject it. This is Paul Ryan's district! The one Trump one by 10 points! That's very bad.
So there's only one thing to say to Paul Ryan for making this all possible. Thanks!!!!
