On Wednesday, CNN’s Jake Tapper decided to use unpopular sexual assault artist Donald Trump’s commencement speech in front of U.S. Coast Guard cadets in New London, Connecticut. This was the speech where, instead of imparting wisdom and hope into the young graduates, Trump decided to bitch and moan about how he was the most unfairly treated politician in the history of forever. Forget about the fact that he isn’t even the most unfairly treated politician in the presidential election he just ran in, Tapper decided to point out something more important.
Tapper: Let us forget for one moment that the service members in the audience, about to put their lives on the line protecting our coasts, might not feel that bad about a politician who has been criticized in some sharply-worded editorials. Let us focus instead on why the President is where he is. It is not because of any one in particular being unfair to him, or bad staffing, or poor communications, or an aggressive media. It is because of things the President has said and things the President has done.
Tapper goes into the reports of former FBI Director James Comey’s alleged “memo” that says President Trump attempted to get Comey to end the FBI’s investigation into disgraced former General Michael Flynn’s ties to Russia. Tapper covers the story, including Speaker Paul Ryan’s weak-ass statement. Then Tapper plays the microphone clip that caught Department of Homeland Security chief John Kelly’s “quip” to Trump upon receiving a ceremonial saber from the Coast Guard, about using the saber on the press.
Tapper: “Use that on the press,” Kelly said. I might recommend that anyone be careful when using a saber like that one. Especially anyone who has a propensity for self-inflicted wounds.
Oh, damn.
