Hillary Clinton is back! The former Democratic presidential nominee has announced her future after she confirmed the launch of Onwards Together, a new political action group that will provide support for progressive causes in the US. The announcement came as speculation on her political future continued. Hillary lost in the presidential election last year to current US President, Donald Trump. In an email sent to her supporters, Clinton said that Americans were already speaking out like never before.
The former first lady also went ahead to recognize efforts by regular US citizens in challenging executive immigration orders signed by President Trump that have elicited controversy in recent months. The former Secretary of State called on her supporters to keep the fire burning in years ahead.
The announcement to get back to public life was made in a series of tweets Monday afternoon. The tweets began with a playful reference to her post-election life and then moved forward to share her meditation escape in the woods around Chappaqua, New York, Clinton’s current residence. Hillary said in one tweet that for the last few months after the election, she had managed to spend a lot of quality time with her family while reflecting.
In another tweet, Mrs. Clinton said that she will be launching Onward Together, an organization that she said was to help people get involved in positive and progressive causes, organize such causes, and even use the group as a platform to run for office. The former first lady said that the organization was created to help advance the vision she had, one that earned her the majority vote in the 2016 election. Hilary got nearly 66 million votes which was more than her Republican opponent Donald Trump. The current POTUS, however, won through the election college.
Many experts have argued that the sheer massive number of votes she got makes her a very popular politician in the US. Hillary added that Onward Together will begin its activities by supporting a small number of liberal organizations. This will include organizations such as Swing Left and Indivisible. These are basically organizations working to wrestle back the house from the Republicans in the upcoming 2018 midterms. Mrs. Clinton also said that Onward Together will support the Color of Change, an organization that is pursuing reforms in the criminal justice system.
Other liberal organizations to be targeted will include Emerge America, an organization that continues to offer training for women to run for office under the Democratic Party, and Run For Something, another organization that focuses on recruiting millennials and offering support for those who may want to get involved in public service. The defeat in the 2016 election was a huge blow for the Democratic Party but in the few months of the Trump presidency, there has been a strong rise of liberal activism across the country. Party leaders are looking to use this passion to build momentum moving forward and restore the party’s dominance in the near future.
