Because of course. One wonders if Trump is even allowed by the Russians to choose his own defense attorney at this point. If not that, then Trump really doesn’t want to be president, because the optics on this are devastating:
According to a report in NBC News, President Donald Trump is expected to retain Marc Kasowitz as a private attorney to deal with matters related to the Russia investigation.

[Kaswotiz] was just named a lead attorney to defend Russia’s largest state-run bank against claims that it helped a granite-mining company raid and kill off its main competitor in the Russian market.
Marc E. Kasowitz is representing OJSC Sberbank of Russia, which is accused in US federal court of conspiring with granite company executives — including Russia’s former minister of economy and trade — in what the plaintiffs say amounts to a “textbook case of Russian corporate raiding.”
…
In the complaint, lawyers for P-Granit claim that Russian courts are “compromised, corrupt” and that the company cannot get a fair trial there, which led to its decision to file the lawsuit in America.

I mean sheesh. His campaign manager worked for them. His son in law seems to have conspired with them. Several of his advisers are actually suspected of being Russian agents of one kind or another. All his money is tied up with Russian oligarchs… if he still has any of his own at this point (anyone watching Fargo wrt how criminal groups move in on a company?).
And now even his defense lawyer will potentially be in Putin’s pocket. Anyone see a pattern here? With the dirt Russia must have on Trump, does anyone actually think Trump made the final decision on who his defense attorney would be? I mean granted Kasowitz has worked for Trump in the past, with all the other Russian contacts. But any sensible defendant would go another direction, surely.
Or is he just this dumb?
