I found this very amusing. Apparently the reason for Republicans engineering a 217 “yes” vote majority on the Obamacare repeal vote was because it would be two votes over the required number.
Republicans had pleaded with colleagues to ensure the bill passed by more than a single vote, which would disarm Democratic attacks labeling them the "deciding vote" on the bill. In their closed-door conference meeting, Rep. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) made precisely that argument, according to GOP insiders. And exiting the meeting, Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.) also said he hoped the bill passed by at least two votes.
Let’s set aside for a minute the tremendous cynicism and insult to intelligence of the American people that this rhetorical maneuver shows. There’s an easy way to turn this around on them and use it to our advantage. It’s literally the case that since two votes made the difference, those two votes are the congressperson in question + Paul Ryan.
So, we need to get ready to repeat this out loud at every town hall this summer.
Congressman, you AND Paul Ryan cast the deciding votes to throw 23 million people off medical care.
Congressman, you and Paul Ryan put my family in jeopardy.
Congressman, you and Paul Ryan think giving tax breaks to millionaires is more important that children having food to eat.
Congressman, you and Paul Ryan are the only reasons we have lost our health insurance.
Congressman, you and Paul Ryan voted to bankrupt my family.
Congressman….
