Courtesy of Jonathan Martin at the NYT. Greg Gianforte, Rob Quist’s opponent in the upcoming special election in Montana, has been having some problems. He’s only leading by single digits in a state that went huge for Trump, and his challenger’s attracted six times the number of individual contributions that he has. Unfortunately for Mister Gianforte, he’s just made his problems far worse:
When Greg Gianforte, the Republican running for an open House seat in Montana, was asked on Thursday whether he would have supported the bill repealing the Affordable Care Act that passed the House that day, he declined to answer.
“Greg needs to know all the facts, because it’s important to know exactly what’s in the bill before he votes on it,” said a spokesman for Mr. Gianforte, who is running in a special election for the seat vacated by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.
But on the same day, during a private conference call with Republican-leaning lobbyists in Washington, Mr. Gianforte offered a more supportive view of the health bill. Making the case for the “national significance” of the Montana election on May 25, Mr. Gianforte said: “The votes in the House are going to determine whether we get tax reform done, sounds like we just passed a health care thing, which I’m thankful for, sounds like we’re starting to repeal and replace.”
He might try to weasel out of that, but it’s unequivocal that he supports the House bill. That’s bad enough… even if he hadn’t made a public statement the same day which was just revealed as a bald-faced lie. So not only does Gianforte support this monstrous bill, but he lacks the integrity to say so in public. He’ll happily tell his fundraisers behind closed doors, when he thinks no one’s listening.
Just one more Republican con artist. Fortunately, he’s not a very effective one. His secret’s out, and to use Nancy Pelosi’s phrase… let’s tattoo it to his forehead.
