Received this e-mail today from Rep. Jared Polis’ (D. CO) gubernatorial campaign:
Today the Senate Republicans announced that their healthcare plan -- crafted in secret by Mitch McConnell and insurance lobbyists -- that would cause over 22 million Americans to lose coverage does NOT have the support to hold a vote before the 4th of July holiday.
But the Senate is still pushing forward on their reckless vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act with an announcement that they plan to bring the bill back after the congressional recess.
I’m not going to dance around this issue. Lives are on the line. Coloradans will lose vital healthcare access and Medicaid services and the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office tells us that 22,000,000 Americans will lose their insurance under this bill. I won’t stand by as this dishonest, dangerous process continues and I’m doing everything I can to defeat this bill and move forward with reforms to help more Americans afford coverage, not less.
The disastrous piece of legislation picks winners and losers. For working families, the elderly, the disabled, and those with a pre-existing condition, this bill will be devastating. The rich, on the other hand, stand to gain millions of dollars in tax cuts under this bill.
However, there is reason to hope. The outcry that this legislation has provoked among both Democrats and Republicans is escalating to a fever pitch. McConnell already has had to delay the vote once for fear even his own party would vote against him.
Opposition has sprouted across the ideological spectrum, but protecting our health care will require your vocal perspective. Will you speak out by signing our petition to oppose this bill?
Thanks for making a difference,
Jared
