Born in Brooklyn on June 20, 1928, actor Martin Landau died Saturday, at the age of 89 — of “unexpected complications’” after a brief stay at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, according to Hollywood Reporter.
Myself, I grew up watching Martin in Mission: Impossible re-runs on Saturday and/or Sunday afternoons. I remember trying to get interested in Space: 1999, but if it weren’t for Maya, the show was fairly unwatchable, even for a 12-year-old.
But I appreciated his bit-parts in his later years, over the last 20-or so years. After not seeing him for so long, I was impressed with the fervent, even frenetic, energy the old dude could bring to a role.
I’d say I was late to the party, rather than he was late to the game.
Peace, Martin, and thanks.
