I have been thinking a lot about this lately and I am wondering if there is any way we can contact the policy makers of the Democratic Party directly with our ideas. Does anyone know if this is possible? Or is there a way to do it here and I have just missed the memo?
A little background:
I am, unfortunately, represented by one of the biggest a-hole Republicans in Congress (I know, a-hole Republican is a redundant term). I don’t even bother contacting him because I know it would do no good. In a neighboring district is a Democratic Congressman who used to be my Representative until he was gerrymandered out. I call him if I need anything and he does help. I called him office earlier in the year when other Democratic Congressmen were going into Republican represented districts and holding health care town halls, when the Republican representatives were afraid to do so. I told his aide that he should be doing this and doing it in my district. Nothing happened. Then after the first failed Trumpcare vote in the House, I called him again and said now is the time for Democrats to go on the offensive, with their ideas on how to improve health care. Nothing. While the aide who I talked to was nice, I don’t know if my messages were received as nothing was done. I have also called both Nancy Pelosi’s and Harry Reid’s office, stating that they were my leaders and I had an opinion, but I don’t know if anything was done with my ideas. For the record, I was clear and respectful of everyone I talked on the phone with, and I laid out my ideas in detail, so there should be no anger towards me. I have no idea if anyone outside of the person I talked to on the phone even got my comments. While I in no way claim to have all or the best ideas, I thought I had some good comments that they should at least think about.
I would love to tell the powers that be that Democrats should hold the line on the debt ceiling vote and that their price for the vote should be the full funding of the ACA until the next debt ceiling vote, and the dissolution of the Kris Kobach voter suppression committee that Comrade Trumputin has. While I don’t want to see the US default, I think we all agree that it would show the futility of Republican government if this did happen. To my surprise, Democrats have held firm on Trumpcare. They should on the debt ceiling vote as well.
When I was younger, I thought I might run for Congress. As such, I do have a Word document that I wrote down ideas for bills I would introduce. While I will probably never run, I thought I had some good ideas.
My point with saying that is that we have some good and smart people on this site, with good ideas. I base that on the diaries and comments that I see. Surely with the brain trust here, we could come up with some great ideas for Democratic policy makers to consider. Because as we all have seen, many times Democratic leaders come off as tone-deaf and they don't see what is out of the Washington bubble. We are in the trenches and many times know what is really going on. I don’t care if these ideas come through this site, of if there is a way to present them to Democratic leaders from us individually, as long as they are seen. Democratic leaders at least know of this site, and should take us seriously. If anything hopefully we all could positively impact Party policy, and aid in the mission of this site. And it can’t be in a public format on the official websites. We all know when Republicans have asked for public input, it has been an epic fail. I know that if the RNC had some public format asking for input, I would troll them on a daily basis, just for the comedy value alone.
Does such a communication channel exist for Democratic leaders? Can such a thing exist? How would we do this? What do you all think of this idea?
Thank you for reading this. I look forward to reading your responses. Have a great day.
