Elected officials in this country have, ultimately, a single responsibility: the defense of the Constitution from all threats, foreign and domestic.
The greatest threat to any democracy is fascism. It is a cancer unique to democracy, particularly when malfeasance and disenfranchisement by one party has empowered a radical political minority far beyond its actual popular support.
Everyone in public office now has an obligation to pick a side. You either stand with the Constitution, with Americans, with the defense of democracy itself, or you stand with fascist terrorists. They have made clear that they are the enemies of human civilization.
Ignoring them is not an option.
Hoping they’ll shut up and keep voting for you without making too much of a fuss is not an option.
Pretending that “many sides” are just as bad is not an option, and only provides aid and comfort for them.
On this question there can be no middle ground.
