In the wake of Trump’s Armageddon of a press conference on Tuesday, in which he seemed to think he was A-OK on that Charlottesville thing since he owns a winery right nearby, I am reposting a link to a truly must-read piece of journalism that appeared in the November 2015 issue of Washingtonian magazine.

The piece describes how Trump came to be the owner of the largest and most prestigious vineyard in Virginia and well as how he obtained Mar-a-Lago, the former Majorie Merriweather Post estate in Palm Beach, Florida. In both cases, he used Mafia-style extortion tactics. He purchased surrounding properties and then threatened to be such a bad neighbor that the owners eventually relented and sold cheap.
We’ve known who this guy is all along. How could the country have been so blind?
American “exceptionalism” is dead with a stake through it’s heart. We have forfeited any claim to moral high ground. We have proven to the world that America can fall into the clutches of a cheap con man playing on fears and hatreds.
