Early this morning, a Nazi* threw an improvised explosive device, also known as a bomb, into the window of a Minnesota mosque as members were preparing for morning prayer. The mosque was not yet full, but there were people there who were able to put out the fire even before the fire department arrived. So, as far as horrible tragedies go, it’s not so bad.
A motive in the bombing, and whether it was a hate crime, has not been determined, Thornton said.
Let me help: yes, it was a hate crime, and the motive was to hurt Muslims.
But the collective response, the complete lack of coverage, has left me second-guessing my own shock.
Are we so numb from the hate that incidents like this now register somewhere between “yawn” and “meh”?
Has it already gotten to the point that hate crimes against Muslims are to be expected, so it’s not a big deal unless somebody dies?
Someone will die.
The rhetoric from the White House is not tapering. The NRA continues to threaten and incite. Of all the incidents that have occurred in the past six months, all the horrible threats and harassment targeting non-whites and non-Christians...few if any have registered a response from the White House or the GOP in general. Which can only mean, this is exactly what they want.
We have often speculated, imagined, what would have happened if Hillary or Obama had said some of the things that the so-called pr*sident has said. It would be an outrage. Imagine if a couple of young Muslims had dropped a bomb into a window of the local Baptist church. You think that would have stirred a response from the White House? From Congress? How quickly would Muslims be banned and deported then?
*The Nazi party has not official claimed responsibility for this incident.
