Not even a year in, and White House staff members are already making plans for life beyond the Trump administration. In fact, word around town is there will be several departures after the New Year.
“There will be an exodus from this administration in January,” said one Republican lobbyist, who alone has heard from five officials looking for new gigs. “Everyone says, ‘I just need to stay for one year.’ If you leave before a year, it looks like you are acknowledging that you made a mistake.”
I’d say anyone with a rational view of the situation always knew it’d be a mess working for a Trump administration. But these folks went for it anyway, and:
“There is no joy in Trumpworld right now,” said one adviser in frequent contact with several staffers. “Working in the White House is supposed to be the peak of your career, but everyone is unhappy, and everyone is fighting everyone else.”
According to the article, those looking to leave cite low morale, the spreading Russia investigation, near-constant turnover at the White House’s top levels, and a “backbiting” workplace.
Are they surprised? I’m not surprised. Didn’t we know this would be the case?
