Our very own Very Stable Genius wants to avoid a government shut down because the “worst thing is what happens to our military,” and we “just about never needed our military more than now.” Never. A spokesman says that the Very Stable Genius “wants to ensure our military and national security are funded. He will not let it be held hostage by Democrats.” Paul Ryan claims that “our military is being used as a bargaining chip….” We’re all hearing the claims non-stop today.
Military readiness does, in fact, suffer under continuing resolutions, but Republicans, also in fact, don’t care. National defense is a cliché attack by Republicans regardless of the situation, and rarely have they used it while simultaneously showing a complete disregard for national security.
It has become a saw that, if this nation falls, it will be not to military might but to treachery or a slow rot from within. No event has encapsulated both of those threats so well as the Russian intervention in our last election, almost certainly in collusion and more with the Trump campaign and quite possibly Republicans. Worse, the cyber-attacks continue to this day while our Very Stable Genius likely relies on them and the Republicans may not be all that opposed to them, either.
We have to throw that into their faces. We should have been doing it already, yet all we hear or read is Republican lies and misdirections. Get loud and stay loud in tying concern for national security to the Republicans as the threat they are to our democracy and not as one of their talking points.
