The Flamingo Visitors Center is about an hour's drive from the park entrance in Homestead, so many tourists don't make the trip down, and spend all their time up at Royal Palm instead. I was hoping to see some American Crocodiles, which I have seen in the wild in Costa Rica but never in Florida. The southern part of the Everglades, along the coast, is the only place in the US with Crocodiles (and the only place in the world with both Alligators and Crocodiles). Since it was overcast for most of the day, my odds of seeing a Croc were kinda low (if they can’t sunbathe they tend to stay in the water where it’s harder to see them), but off I went anyway, and spent the day at Flamingo. Some photos.
For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and am traveling around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I have visited.
