During the 2016 election, Melania’s immigration / visitation status was questioned. Donald said that she had it all in such beautiful order and she would be presenting it “in two weeks,” something that didn’t happen, as she was going to correct the “fake news” out there about her immigration. As the news whips, we often forget about these issues, then months later, the tRump Administration says, people voted for him despite that, so we don’t need to show it. The minority of Americans did vote for him, but his wife was not elected to anything, and her status is relevant to this conversation of undocumented / illegal residents.
There seemed to be evidence that Melania came over here in August of 1996 on a B1/B2 Tourist Visa, which did not allow her to work while in America. Despite that, Melania worked and was paid as a model for the next two months. In October, she then applied for a H-1B visa for “skilled workers” allowing her to work legally in the US as a model. Ass you can see from the photo above, it takes real skill — something mere Americans would not be able to do!
Melania was originally working on a Visa that didn’t legally permit her to work — and thus she was violating the terms by which she’d been allowed to come to the U.S. She violated her Tourist Visa the minute she engaged in employment for pay in the U.S. These were jobs that hard -working Americans could have done — at least that’s what Donald says about the jobs now!
Melania received her Green Card in 2001. But in order for her to have gotten a green card and eventually U.S. citizenship, she would have had to swear (attest) that she hadn’t violated immigration law before — something that appears to be untrue, so if she did attest to that, then she lied to a federal agency.
But Melania’s status won’t be questioned, unlike the thousands of DACA recipients who didn’t knowingly violate the law, like Melania did. The DACA recipients were brought here as children, Melania made the decision as a 26 year old adult. The DACA kids were brought here by their families so they could have opportunities for education, not exploitation; to depend on themselves, not a sugar daddy. These hardworking people are Trump’s pawns to build a wall that won’t help, but his wife is held up as a success story?
If the government wanted to, it could launch an investigation into whether Melania Trump deliberately misrepresented her immigration history when she sought U.S. citizenship. It could even try to strip her of it; it won’t, but it could. According to the AP, “The government effectively does this in only the most egregious cases, such as instances involving terrorism or war crimes.”
The government may have adjusted that to “what country are you from?” or “are you of any use to us?”
Let’s Demand to see Melania’s Papers Please!
*I understand reporters recently asked if Melania’s parents’ immigration status was thee result if “chain migration” and were told White House would not be discussing specific cases.*
