Just another day in Trump’s America…
First, the simply stupid:
Bucks County seniors may not agree on solutions, but members of both parties are frustrated with the current state of health care in America.
Diane Wagner, 68, 58 years in Pennsylvania, Independent
“Government should have nothing to say about health care. Big government is no answer, it only makes things worse. … Medicare works good. I get Medicare. It’s something we paid for. It’s not an entitlement. Well, it’s an entitlement that we paid for. All through life in our checks when we worked, they took money out, and if you think it’s a little bit, it’s not. Medicare is something that we all paid for, we all paid into. Is it socialized medicine? It’s not really socialized medicine.”
What do you do with someone like this? She is likely beyond hope. The stupidity is so deep, so entrenched, that any amount of rational explanation supported by simple, straightforward facts would be unlikely to sway her from her inane beliefs.
Next, the stupid and the lying:
President Donald Trump on Monday suggested that "rogue killers" may be responsible for the disappearance of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, while also dispatching Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to meet with Saudi Arabia's King Salman.
"We are going to leave nothing uncovered," Trump told reporters on the South Lawn of the White House. "With that being said, the king firmly denied any knowledge of it. ... I don't want to get into his mind, but it sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers, who knows? We'll try getting to the bottom of it very soon. His was a flat denial."
Trump’s latest version of “Putin-denied-he-interfered-and-I-have-no-reason-to-doubt-him.” But “rougue killers?” Really? “Rogue killers” who somehow found their way into the Saudi embassy in Turkey? I’m guessing the only folks who could buy that line of horseshit are folks like Dianne Wagner from Pennsylvania.
And then there’s Elizabeth Warren’s DNA test that proves she has Native American blood…
White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Monday dismissed Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D-Mass.) DNA test revealing her Native American ancestry, calling it "junk science."
...
"I haven’t looked at the test,” Conway told CNN's Abby Phillip. “I know that everybody likes to pick their junk science or sound science depending on the conclusion, it seems some days.”
“But I haven’t looked at the DNA test and it really doesn’t interest me,” Conway added.
Yes, Kellyanne, DNA testing is “junk science.” Of course, Don also chimed in on Warren’s DNA test claiming he “didn’t care.”
The “junk science” DNA claim is of a piece with this bit of Trumpian stupidity/lying from last night’s “60 Minutes” interview:
…
"I think something's happening. Something's changing and it'll change back again," he said. "I don't think it's a hoax. I think there's probably a difference. But I don't know that it's manmade. I will say this: I don't want to give trillions and trillions of dollars. I don't want to lose millions and millions of jobs."
…
"They say that we had hurricanes that were far worse than what we just had with Michael," said Trump, who identified "they" as "people" after being pressed by "60 Minutes" correspondent Leslie Stahl. She asked, "What about the scientists who say it's worse than ever?" the president replied, "You'd have to show me the scientists because they have a very big political agenda."
Again, I’m looking at you, Dianne Wagner from Pennsylvania, to back Trump on this. Never mind this bit:
Mr. Trump's comments came just days after a Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued a warning that global warming would increase climate-related risks to health, livelihoods, food security, water supply, human security and economic growth. The report detailed how Earth's weather, health and ecosystems would be in better shape if the world's leaders could somehow limit future human-caused warming.
But what do Nobel Prize-winning scientists know?
NOTHING!
“Keep your government hands off my Medicare!”
Jeezus, the stupidity (and the lies) — it burns...
