Before we all found out that Brett Kavanaugh was a rapey asshole, we discovered he was just an asshole.
When Fred Guttenberg, the father of slain Marjory Stoneman Douglas student Jaime Guttenberg, tried to shake Kavanaugh’s hand early on in the SCOTUS confirmation process, Kavanaugh turned his back, barely acknowledging the grieving parent.
That didn’t sit well with Guttenberg, who later said, “I guess he did not want to deal with the reality of gun violence."
#MeToo has been the rallying cry for many voters in the run-up to the midterms, and rightly so. But we shouldn’t forget that this administration and Republicans in Congress have left millions of young people at high schools, college campuses, and elsewhere twisting in the wind and often fearing for their lives and their futures.
Luckily, parents like Guttenberg won’t let us forget:
Young people are notoriously remiss when it comes to voting, but hopefully they’ll remember how they’ve been marginalized and silenced over the gun issue.
Want representatives who listen when it comes to the issues that are most important to you?
#Vote
Like your life depends on it …
