Driving home yesterday at about 9:00 a.m. EDT I heard a conversation on MSNBC radio (their SiriusXM Channel) that the huge national small donor donations to Beto O’Rourke are a mistake because he cannot win and that national money would be better spent on Sen. McCaskill or Sen. Heitkamp or whomever could actually win.
Looking at Texas turnout I agree.
Democrats and voters in general just don’t vote in Texas — Texas is worst in turnout! www.chron.com/… www.texastribune.org/… news4sanantonio.com/…
In 2016 Democrat Hillary Clinton won Travis County (Austin) 66.3% to 27.4%, Dallas County (Dallas) 61.1% to 34.9% and Harris County (Houston) with 54.2% to 41.8%. www.politico.com/…
But lets look at those counties turnout in off year elections…
Travis County….2014 40.80% and 2010 39.4 % www.sos.state.tx.us/…
Dallas County 2014 33.78% and 2010 37.06% www.sos.state.tx.us/…
Harris County 2014 32.91% and 2010 40.68% www.sos.state.tx.us/…
Democratic counties in Texas just don’t turnout to vote. If people don’t vote democrats will not win. Another off year election below 41% turnout in big democratic counties will spell defeat.
Ideas on why Texas democrats don’t vote? Should small donors spend elsewhere? Will people turnout this year? What will happen to the House and Senate 3 weeks from today?
